Family Court Review Core Values that Span Time, Disciplines, and Cultures
In its more than 30 years of existence, Family Court Review (FCR) has grown from a newsletter to a respected journal with an international following of family law professionals. Part of the reason the journal has become a premier source in the field is its adherence to certain core values:
- RESPECTING the interdisciplinary nature of our work
FCR welcomes debate and discussion from all the interrelated fields involved in family law:- From the judiciary, we gain a sense of the past and the importance of case law;
- From the legal and mediation professionals, we gain a sense of respecting the adverse interests of different parties, and that the weak are endowed with rights that cannot be denied by those in positions of strength;
- From the mental health and social services communities, we gain insight into the workings of the human personality and the dynamics of families and groups.
- RECOGNIZING that our world expands beyond national boundaries
Events happening in Los Angeles affect Portland, London, Auckland, Sydney, Toronto, and other parts of the world – and vice versa. Developments in family law, including the use of mediation, redefining divorcing families, and recognizing the need to help strengthen marriage and reform the process of divorce, have benefited from synergy among the members of the international family law community. - FOCUSING on the families and individuals served by the family law professionals
Without staying connected to the people, and concentrating on their needs and welfare, the work of family law professionals loses its meaning and relevance.
